No. 01What you can do

From one total to a plan you can edit

Type your Total budget and, if you know it, the number of Guests. The calculator divides the total across 12 categories, from Venue & rentals and Catering & bar to Stationery, Rings and a Buffer, and shows an amount for each plus the cost per guest.

The starting split is only somewhere to begin. Change the percent beside any category and the others rescale in proportion, so the plan still adds up to your total, to the cent.

When a vendor is signed, lock that category at the contract amount with the lock button or by typing the dollar amount. The rest share what is left, and if your locked amounts add up to more than the budget, the plan says by how much.

No. 02Planned and actual

The same page works as a wedding expense calculator

Once bills start arriving, use the Actual field. Each category gets an Actual amount next to the planned one, and the totals show planned, actual and the difference, so you can see which lines have run over. The CSV includes them too.

Your money stays in your browser.

No. 03How it works

Build your budget in four steps

  1. No. 01

    Enter your total

Type the Total budget and the Guests count. Press Fill example to see it working first; the numbers it loads are labelled as starting assumptions to replace.

  2. No. 02

    Adjust and lock

Change the percent next to any category, and tap the lock on one that is booked. Unlock it again whenever a quote changes.

  3. No. 03

    Track actual spending

As you pay each vendor, type the amount into that category's Actual field and watch the difference update.

  4. No. 04

    Copy or download

Use Copy as text to paste your plan into a message, or Download CSV for a spreadsheet file. Reset clears everything.

No. 04Good to know

What this calculator does not do

It does not know what things cost where you live, or work out a budget from your income; it divides the total you choose. For real figures, bring in quotes: the reception cost calculator turns a caterer quote into a total, and the wedding flower cost calculator prices a floral budget item by item.

The 12 categories are fixed. For a destination wedding or a dress budget, use the closest category, such as Attire & beauty for the outfit, and lock it at the amount you have in mind.

Where this fits with the other planning tools

The budget sets the ceiling; these tools fill in the lines under it.

No. 06Tips

Using your budget plan well

  1. No. 01

    Start with your total

Decide what you are comfortable spending before you collect quotes. Every other number follows from it.

  2. No. 02

    Lock what is booked

Once a vendor is signed, lock that category at the contract amount. The rest of the plan rescales around it.

  3. No. 03

    Keep a buffer

Something always comes up late. Leave the Buffer category in place and trim it last.

  4. No. 04

    Settle the guest list early

Cost per guest moves with every name you add or cut. Once the list is steady, the [seating chart maker](/wedding-seating-chart-maker) and the [wedding invitation maker](/wedding-invitation-maker) are the next jobs.

No. 08Questions

Good questions

About the wedding budget calculator.

Is the wedding budget calculator free?

Yes. It is free to use, needs no sign-up, and works on your phone. It does not use AI: the same total always gives the same starting split.

Is this also a wedding budget creator or cost estimator?

Yes. You give it a total and it builds a category-by-category plan you can edit, so it works as a budget creator or maker. As an estimator it shows how a total could be divided; it does not look up prices.

How do I track what I actually spend?

Each category has an Actual amount next to the planned one, and the totals show planned, actual and the difference. Enter an amount as you pay each vendor.

Is the starting split what couples usually spend?

No. It is a place to start, not a statistic about what couples spend. Costs vary too much by place and guest count for one split to fit everyone. Replace the percentages with your own quotes.

Is there a wedding budget app or spreadsheet version?

There is nothing to install: it is a web page that works in your phone or computer browser. For a spreadsheet, press Download CSV and open the file in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.

Is my budget saved or shared?

Your last budget is kept in your browser so it is still here next time. Nothing is sent to a server, and nobody else can see it. Use Reset to clear it.

Can I use it as a marriage budget planner?

Yes. A marriage budget and a wedding budget are the same job here: enter a total, adjust the split and lock what is booked.
